2017 Inspiration

Well, another week approaches, Christmas is just weeks away, which signifies that another year is almost over…..and what do you have to show for it?

Did you set goals for this year in 2016?

Did you have New Years’ Resolutions?

Did you achieve your goals and stick to your resolutions?

If you answered yes, good on ya. If you want to share what kept you motivated, I’d love to hear.

If you answered no. what happened? Can you pinpoint when you started to veer off track?

Did your stance change in some way – so what seemed important when you set them seemed less so as the year went on?

Is it the end of the world that you didn’t achieve them, or a resigned awareness of where you are in your life right now?

Have you considered that your goals were a bit over optimistic?

Considering that over 750 women have told me some version of they feel like a failure, or feel they are ‘never enough’ this year – I think it’s a valid question.

Do we just make our goals unattainable and then beat ourselves up for it every year at this time of year?

I was asked today how I did with my weight loss for this year after announcing HUGE plans for this year on that part of my life waaaaay back in January. I had to say I had achieved less than half what I wanted to, but for the past 3 months have kept that weight off, and last year I put all of the weight I lost back on before the end of the year. So in those terms this year is a SUCCESS! I didn’t yo-yo. I lost some, and it stayed lost! Yay.

It was a great question, by someone I love and admire a lot. Someone who has my back – always. She made me focus on what I’d done well. Not what I hadn’t managed to do. This year was way better than last year.

I want to be clear on this. I’m NOT asking you to think small and under-sell yourself. I’m asking you to be fair, kind, and reasonable to yourself when setting goals.

Look at your past performance and see any gain as exactly that – a gain.

Be proud of yourself for even the smallest victory. You took action in some way and it paid off.

Give yourself a minute or two to write down what you have achieved this year…not what you haven’t!

Big or small. It took action!

Stay in action, and shit gets done!

Stay in action!

Keep it in perspective of how far you’ve come.

It’s ok to re-evaluate goals.

Stay in action!

It’s ok to call yourself out, tell yourself you need to try harder……but establish first, what at?

Try answering these questions and doing this little exercise before setting your new goal for 2018.

What are you grateful for this year in your life?

Want more of that?
